I was born in London, and I have always lived in this amazing city.
I have always loved books. When I was growing up, I was happiest when I slipped through a doorway and found myself in Narnia, or plunged through the jungle with the Picaros, or followed Max as he sailed through night and day and in and out of weeks until he came to a place full of wild things.
Among my favourite books, which I read over and over again as a kid, and still read now, were Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl, Tintin in Tibet by Hergé, and SOS Bobomobile by Jan Wahl.
I have now written forty children’s books which have been translated into more than twenty languages.
My books range from picture books – The Pet Potato – to middle-grade novels like A Dog Called Grk. My Dragonsitter series has sold a million copies in the UK, and many more around the world.
When I am not reading or writing, I like to go for long walks with my dog.
